Assistant Swim Team Coaches help to coordinate the Pav YMCA Poseidon Swim Team. Part-time, $10-11/hr.

Emphasis is placed on teaching stroke technique, developing endurance, building character, promoting sportsmanship, team spirit, and positive self-worth, while providing an enjoyable experience.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be a proficient swimmer
  • Previous competitive swimming experience
  • High school diploma
  • YMCA experience (preferred)
  • Experience with coaching ages 6-21 (preferred)

CERTIFICATIONS:

  • CPR, First Aid, AED (must obtain within 90 days of employment)
  • New Employee Orientation (must obtain within 90 days of employment)
  • Department Specific Redwoods Trainings (must obtain within 90 days of employment)
  • American Red Cross Safety for Swim Coaches certification (must obtain within 90 days of employment)
  • YMCA Principles of Competitive Swimming certification (must obtain within 90 days of employment)
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard certification (preferred)
  • USA Swimming certification (preferred)
  • YMCA Swim Official training (preferred)

*It is the responsibility of the employee to obtain and maintain all certifications required to perform this position, in accordance with Pav YMCA guidelines.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create and ensure safe and welcoming environment
  • Ability to enforce policies, problem solve and handle emergency situations
  • Ability to assist and communicate with all populations of people regardless of race, age, and special needs
  • Demonstrate the YMCA core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility
  • Attend training when appropriate
  • Support YMCA special events, signature events, and campaigns
  • Perform all tasks to the best of your ability and with a positive attitude
  • Assist the Head Coach in the administration and operation of the swim team
  • Required to be present and on deck at all times during practices
  • Remaining actively engaged during practices, including getting in the water to demonstrate skills to swimmers when needed
  • Attend all scheduled meets, coaches meetings, and other relevant events as decided upon by Head Coach or Aquatic Director
  • Regularly communicate with Head Coach regarding swimmers’ progress
  • Must have the ability to relate to children, parents, members, and guests 
  • Must be able to work evenings and weekends
  • Other duties assigned by the Director, Senior Program Director and/or Executive Director
