Youth Swim Lessons Ages 6 and up

Everyone must take a shower before entering the pool.
Have your child check in with the Lesson Coordinator.
Put a float belt on your child if they need one. An instructor will be glad to help them with this.
These skills must be achieved before moving on to the next level. This is accomplished through student evaluation by the instructor.

POLLIWOG
These are the beginning swimmers that have had little or no formal swimming lessons. They are getting comfortable in the
water. GOAI.S: General pool safety, paddle stroke one length of the pool, use kick board 25 yards on front and back,
blowing bubbles, and floating, swim one length of the pool on front, good flutter kick with or without a float belt, use kick
board 25 yards on front and back with a good flutter kick, comfortable putting whole face in the water, and blowing bubbles
(rhythmic breathing).
GUPPY
These are the advanced beginner swimmers who have had some formal swimming lessons, are able to swim one length
paddle stroke and are comfortable in the water. GOALS: General pool safety, 25 yards paddle stroke without float belt, 25
yards front crawl with rotary breathing without float belt, and tread water.
MINNOW
These are intermediate swimmers with knowledge of crawl stroke and elementary backstroke. GOALS: 25 yards front crawl,
25 yards back crawl, elementary backstroke, treading water, general pool safety, and personal safety.
FISH
These are advanced intermediate swimmers, a prerequisite of 25 yards of both front and back crawl and elementary
backstroke. GOALS: 50 yards front crawl, back crawl, elementary backstroke, dolphin kick with face in the water,
swimming sequence involving all of the above, introduction to breaststroke, personal safety and rescue.
FLYING FISH
These are advanced swimmers. Prerequisite: 50 yards of both front crawl and back crawl. GOAI.S: Improvement of all
strokes, 200 yards individual medley, open turns, personal safety and rescue.
SHARK
This is the second advanced level of swimmers. Prerequisite is 200 yard Individual Medley (50 yards of front and back crawl,
breaststroke, and butterfly.) GOALS: Front starts, breaststroke start/turn, back and front flip turns, lifesaving medley,
butterfly, sidestroke, personal safety and rescue.
